Brooklyn’s growing reputation as one of the preeminent biotech centers of the country took another step forward recently with a $3 million federal grant to fund an addition to SUNY Downstate’s Advanced Biotechnology Incubator.
The money comes as one of the companies already renting space in the incubator building at 450 Clarkson Avenue may have discovered a breakthrough that will lead to a HIV/AIDS vaccine.

The proposed agribusiness park and farm innovation center being planned in northern Clark County took a major step forward this week. On Tuesday, the Federal Economic Development Administration announced it will provide a $4 million grant to the city of Owen to help put the project together.
The park is made up of 71 acres of vacant farmland that was recently acquired by the city through a land-swap agreement with the county. The 52,000 square-foot Ag Innovation Center would be used for research, education and serve as a place for other types of agricultural innovation. Another 87 acres would be available for purchase in the future should Wisconsin Farm Technology Days decide to utilize the facility as their permanent venue.

To effectively accomplish this goal, we detail here three key features that should be implemented as part of the federal effort. The first two would be housed in the Economic Development Administration, or EDA. AUGUSTA, Maine — Members of Maine’s congressional delegation and the governors of four northern border states are urging the Obama administration to implement legislation creating the Northern Border Regional Commission to help spur economic recovery.
The legislation, originally sponsored by Rep. Mike Michaud, D-Maine, would create the new agency and authorize spending for a wide array of programs, such as forestry, tourism, conservation, infrastructure improvements and telecommunications improvements.

Good things are often worth waiting for, and that definitely includes the $3.5 million federal grant to the city of Vineland that was announced Friday.
The money is an Economic Development Administration grant for a water treatment plant and water lines needed for a planned industrial park on the southern tip of the city. The site is 300 acres near where Route 55, South Main Road and Lincoln Avenue come together.

EmergeMemphis has received a $500,000 grant from the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration to help fund construction of the fourth floor of Emerge’s offices, creating space for at least 14 new small business tenants, and possibly over 75 jobs. Emerge officially applied for the grant last month with the Center City Revenue Finance Corp.
Hord Architects will design the build-out.
