As part of an innovative partnership aimed at increasing economic development while setting our nation on the path to energy independence, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Department of Energy today announced a program to award $2.3 billion in tax credits for manufacturers of advanced energy equipment. Authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act), this new program will provide tax credits to manufacturers who produce clean energy equipment.

“This program will help encourage innovation in design of clean energy technologies,” said Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner. “This partnership between Treasury and Energy adds an important new dimension to the incentives created in the Recovery Act to increase US manufacturing output, improve energy efficiency, and develop alternative sources of energy.”

On Tuesday, August 11, the Living Zero Home Tour was featured on Good Morning America in a segment with EERE’s John Lushetsky and Good Morning America’s Sam Champion. The two toured the traveling exhibit, which models energy efficient appliances and building technologies. The exhibit also provides information for visitors on tax credits, construction incentives, and appliance and utility rebates.

The Living Zero Home Tour started its nationwide journey in July with an itinerary that will bring it to state fairs, festivals, sporting events, and more throughout the month of November. See the Good Morning America feature on the ABC News Web site.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced more than $20 million in high-end technical assistance to federal agencies to help ensure the widest possible implementation of leading edge energy efficiency technologies across the federal government. Under President Obama, the federal government is committed to leading a transformation to a low-carbon emission future. To assist federal agencies in achieving this goal, DOE’s Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) will make available the technical expertise from DOE’s National Laboratories for such projects as cool roofs, greenhouse gas reductions, renewable energy, smart grids, zero energy homes, sustainable buildings, and energy and water retrofits.

The United States and China signed an agreement on July 28 to enhance cooperation between the two countries on climate change, energy, and the environment. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) elevates climate change in the relationship between the two countries, committing them both to reaching a successful international agreement that addresses the problem. The MOU also expands cooperation between the two countries to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon global economy. Specifically, it lays the foundation for expanded cooperation in combating climate change and developing and promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy, smart grid technologies, electric vehicles, and other energy technologies.
