Astronergy has won a 2MW rooftop PV project located in Hangzhou Energy and Environment Industrial Park through a competitive and selective bidding process. This project is fully financed by China Energy Conservation Investment Corp., and is Zhejiang Province’s first large-scale on-grid PV plant.
The industrial park is situated in the northeast corner of Hangzhou city, covering an area of 23.8 square kilometers. The rooftop of the Green Science and Technology Hall will be among the first to incorporate building-integrated PV (BIPV) technologies.

U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced today that $37 million in funding from the Recovery Act will be made available to qualified small businesses through the Department’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Today’s funding announcement emphasizes the Department’s commitment to developing near-term, clean energy technologies while allowing small businesses take part in the new industrial revolution that the sustainable energy economy will bring.
“Small businesses are engines of job creation and innovation, and we need their ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit to drive a clean energy economy,” said Secretary Chu. “By helping small businesses bring clean technologies to market, we can create jobs, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and reduce carbon pollution.”

WASHINGTON- The Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service (RUS) announced today that they received almost 2,200 applications requesting nearly $28 billion in funding for proposed broadband projects reaching all 50 U.S. states and territories and the District of Columbia. This is the first round of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding aimed at expanding broadband access and adoption to help bridge the technological divide and create jobs building Internet infrastructure, with $4 billion available through loans, grants, and loan/grant combinations.

COLUMBUS JUNCTION — The possibility that two pending grant applications will be approved by federal and state officials continues to be promising, Columbus Junction city officials agreed during the city council’s regular meeting Wednesday.
Mayor Dan Wilson said he was optimistic following a meeting last week to discuss the city’s $600,000 request to the Iowa Department of Economic Development. If that grant is awarded, the city would raise the Iowa River levee east of town to 34.5 feet. The Iowa River crested last year at about 32.5 feet.

For more than 40 years, scientists have dreamed of collecting the sun’s energy in space and beaming it back to Earth. Now, a host of technological advances, coupled with interest from the U.S. military, may be bringing that vision close to reality.
Despite the enormous promise of solar power, the drawbacks of the technology remain significant. People need electricity every day, around the clock, but there’s no part of the United States that is cloud-free 365 days a year — and no solar radiation at night. You have to find some way to store the energy for those sunless periods, and there’s not yet a large-scale way to do that.
